He spent his entire eight- season NFL career with the Bears, from 1965 to 1973, and to this day, he stands as one of the most cherished numbers in the ballot's history. He was named to the Pro Bowl in each of his first eight NFL seasons and was an All Pro in seven of his nine times in the league. He was doubly awarded the NFL Protective Player of the Time and was instated into the Hall of Fame in 1979, his first time of eligibility. His accolades extended to being named to the NFL All- Decade brigades for both the 1960s and 1970s, having hisNo. 51 jersey retired by the Bears, and being suggested to the NFL's 75th and 100th Anniversary brigades. Butkus wasn't just about bone- crushing tackles; he also had exceptional ball chops. He held an NFL record with 26 bobble reclamations, and his 22 career interceptions are tied for 11th in Bears history, alongside fellow Hall of Fame middle linebacker Brian Urlacher. In a 2019 Chicago Bears Centennial Scrapbook, Butkus was ranked as the alternate topmost player in ballot history, just behind the iconic Walter Payton. Speaking of his birthplace roots, Butkus said," It's kind of a unique position because I do not suppose numerous players actually have done that. I feel veritably lucky. My parents got to see presumably 95 percent of the games that were in Chicago, so it was good for my family, and I liked it." Reflecting on his intensity on the field, he noted," I allowed

He innovated The Butkus Foundation, which introduced the Butkus Award to recognize the nation's stylish linebackers in professional, council, and high academy football. He also established the Dick Butkus Center for Cardiovascular Wellness, a nonprofit association aimed at cardiac webbing to identify individualities at threat of heart complaint and unforeseen cardiac death. In addition, the Butkus Foundation initiated the" I Play Clean crusade," educating high academy athletes about the significance of training and nutrition without resorting to illegal steroids and performance- enhancing substances.
